Hailey and the Bean Sprouts: A Skin-Deep Dive into Model Meals

There’s a certain breed of YouTube video that pops up in my feed with alarming regularity. You know the ones. Usually titled something like “What I Eat in a Day (Model Edition!)” or “Get My Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Glow-Up Diet.” They’re all aspirational angles, dewy skin, and suspiciously large salads.

This week, it was Hailey Bieber’s turn. Hailey, with her glazed donut complexion and penchant for athleisure, decided to grace us with a glimpse into her daily eating habits. And honestly? It was about as predictable as a Michael Kors runway show.

Let’s break it down, shall we? The video starts with Hailey, fresh-faced and glowing (no doubt thanks to a team of facialists and a very expensive moisturizer), whipping up a breakfast smoothie. Now, I’m no stranger to a morning smoothie. A handful of spinach, some frozen berries, a dollop of yogurt – it’s a perfectly respectable way to start the day. But Hailey’s concoction? It involved things like “collagen peptides,” “maca powder,” and a suspicious green liquid she referred to as “chlorophyll water.” Look, I’m all for a little health kick, but this felt like something you’d find in Gwyneth Paltrow’s bathroom cabinet, right next to the jade egg.

Lunch was a parade of beige. Chicken breast, steamed broccoli, a smattering of brown rice. The kind of meal that screams “I’m only eating this because my agent told me to.” Where was the joy? The indulgence? The sheer pleasure of a good, messy burger? Nowhere to be found, that’s for sure.

And don’t even get me started on the snacks. A handful of almonds here, a few slices of cucumber there. It all felt very…controlled. Calculated. Like every bite was meticulously planned to maximize calorie burn and minimize enjoyment.

Now, let me be clear. I’m not criticizing Hailey Bieber's food choices. If she wants to subsist on a diet of bean sprouts and kale smoothies, that’s her prerogative. What I find troubling is the message these kinds of videos send, particularly to young, impressionable viewers. They perpetuate the idea that thinness equals happiness, that self-worth is directly correlated to the number on the scale. It’s a dangerous and damaging narrative, one that I, for one, am tired of seeing.

I remember a time, not so long ago, when models were celebrated for their individuality, their unique beauty. They were muses, not mannequins. They ate pasta, they drank champagne, they lived life to the fullest. Somewhere along the way, that all changed. The fashion industry, always obsessed with youth and unattainable ideals, decided that thinness was no longer enough. It had to be extreme. It had to be aspirational. It had to be, dare I say it, boring.

So, Hailey, with all due respect, I’ll stick to my morning coffee and croissant. I’ll take a side of fries with my burger, and I won’t say no to a slice of birthday cake. Because life is too short to count almonds and measure out chlorophyll water. It’s about savoring the good stuff, indulging in moderation, and embracing the messy, imperfect reality of it all. And that, my friends, is a message worth sharing.
